İstanbul Modern Cinema, with the collaboration of the Goethe-Institut İstanbul, presents a selection of German films released within the last year. The program comprises films that were screened for the audience and critics for the first time in festivals such as Berlin, Cannes, Venice, Toronto, and Sundance. The opening film Lila Lila is an entertaining romantic comedy in which reality and fiction intermingle, starring famous young German actor Daniel Brühl.
Among other films included in the selection are: Whiskey with Vodka, a ‘film within film’ melancholic comedy in which reality and fiction are mixed up, by Andreas Dresen who achieved success last year with Cloud 9 (Wolke 9); Gravity (Schwerkraft), a psychological drama with a good dose of violence and humor, and awards from the Max Ophuls Film Festival; one of the most talked-about films at this year’s Berlin Film Festival, Thomas Arslan’s suspense-loaded crime film In the Shadows (Im Schatten); and Orly, an innovative film about lifes in transit and relationships occurring in the space of two hours in the lounge of the Paris Orly Airport.
