Canada Top 10 May 7–17, 2026

Istanbul Modern Cinema presents a 10-film program offering an intergenerational perspective on Canadian cinema, spanning from the 1970s to the present. Drawing on the “Top 10 Canadian Films” list – compiled through a 2015 poll of critics and filmmakers by the Toronto International Film Festival and circulated by the National Film Board of Canada – the selection brings together works that have shaped Canada’s film culture and gained international recognition. The program also includes Beans (2020) by Tracey Deer, representing a new voice in contemporary Canadian cinema.

“Canada Top 10” opens with Don Shebib’s Goin’ Down the Road (1970) and extends to Zacharias Kunuk’s Atanarjuat: The Fast Runner (2000). It brings together key works by directors such as Atom Egoyan, David Cronenberg, Sarah Polley, and Jean-Marc Vallée.
