Talk: Good Design in the Real World
What makes a design good? Rather than approaching this question through a fixed set of principles, BIG-GAME explores how design decisions are made in practice.
Drawing on a selection of projects, prototypes, successes, and compromises, the talk examines how function, manufacturing, cost, sustainability, culture, and intuition come together in the design of everyday objects. Taking Dieter Rams’ influential ideas about good design as a starting point, the presentation offers a contemporary, pragmatic perspective on how BIG-GAME approaches this question today.
About BIG-GAME
BIG-GAME is an industrial design studio founded in Lausanne in 2004 by Augustin Scott de Martinville, Elric Petit, and Grégoire Jeanmonod. The studio works across furniture, product design, and everyday objects for international brands including Alessi, HAY, IKEA, Muji, Muuto, Nespresso, Rado, and SWISS. Its approach combines simplicity and functionality with a direct, often playful engagement with industrial production. BIG-GAME’s designs are represented in the collections of institutions including the Museum of Modern Art in New York, the Centre Pompidou in Paris, and the Museum für Gestaltung Zürich.
