Nordic Film Festival June 9–19, 2016

Istanbul Modern Cinema continues its series of programs bringing together world-renowned, fresh new films from Scandinavia. Featuring the much talked-about Danish, Swedish, Norwegian, Finnish and Icelandic films of the year, the series is highlighted by Louder Than Bombs, filmed in English by Joachim Trier, one of the popular names of the new cinema of Norway, which in recent years has made a mark not only with its movies but its TV serials as well. Another production from Norway featured in the selection is Occupied (Okkupert) while Denmark is represented by A War (Krigen), which competed in the Oscar race this year; a film about a commander stationed in Afghanistan and the dilemma he faces concerning the war. Another film in the program is Sparrows (Þrestir), a delicate and impressive coming-of-age story that takes place in the lyricallandscapes of Iceland.
