THE YARD (YARDEN), 2016

Sweden, Germany | DCP, Color, 80’ | Swedish

Director:Måns Månsson

Cast:Dennis Axnér, Veselko Bedi, Robert Bengtsson

Adapted from Kristian Lunderg’s novel of the same name, the film is about a poet whose life changes when he is fired from his job and has to work in a shipyard in Malmö to make ends meet. Torn away from his accustomed intellectual life, the writer becomes an hourly-rate employee who is called 11811 instead of his own name. In this workplace where the majority of laborers are immigrants, 11811 often faces conflicting situations. In order to provide for his son, he ends up adapting to the working conditions, struggling with financial and moral difficulties. A gloomy social realist drama that reflects today’s world of work.
