The story of Marcelo, an academic trying to survive in 1970s Brazil under the shadow of a military dictatorship. As Marcelo comes under surveillance by the secret service, he is questioned over his past ties to anti-regime circles, while attempting to carry on with everyday life alongside his wife Lúcia and young son Pedro. Caught between the desire to protect his family and the necessity of staying silent, Marcelo’s dilemma deepens as systems of tracking, intimidation, and informants become increasingly visible. The film won Best Actor at Cannes for Wagner Moura and Best Director for Kleber Mendonça Filho and also received the Golden Globe for Best Foreign Language Film.
