Director: Hlynur Pálmason
Cast: Saga Garðarsdóttir, Ída Mekkín Hlynsdóttir, Panda
Icelandic director Hlynur Pálmason’s film approaches a family’s separation process with an intimate narrative that is at times humorous and emotionally intense. Built around the unraveling marriage of visual artist Anna and her fisherman husband Magnús, the story follows their search for a new normal together with their three children. The children, Ída, Grímur, and Þorgils are played by the director’s own children, lending the film a natural family dynamic. The Nordic landscape’s pared-down vistas and everyday rituals carry the story into a tragicomic, deeply heartfelt register. Premiering at Cannes, the film’s dog Panda received the Palm Dog Award.
