Sunshine, a young gymnast living in a Catholic society where abortion is illegal, discovers she is pregnant just as her chance of making the national team and pursuing her Olympic dream draws near. While risking her scholarship and her future to obtain illegal abortion pills, she encounters a mysterious girl who bears an uncanny resemblance to her. Blurring the boundaries between reality and imagination, this encounter forces Sunshine to confront her fears, desires, and choices. With its Manila streetscapes, religious imagery, a story that nods to magical realism, and Maris Racal’s powerful performance, the film won the “Best Film” award at Berlinale Generation 14plus.
