After his grandfather’s death, Makoy struggles to find his way in life and takes refuge in the stories he has heard since childhood: tales of mountains, magical creatures, and a golden deer believed to grant wishes. One day, he sets out for the mountain in hopes of finding the legendary deer. The unexpected friendship he forms with Minggo along the way leads them both to confront the mysteries of the mountain as well as their own losses and dreams. Inspired by an Ilonggo legend passed down through generations in the mountains of Panay Island, shot in Hiligaynon and made entirely by an Ilonggo crew, Golden Deer is a warm, folklore-infused, fairy tale-like coming-of-age story.
