Restless and rebellious Emily loses her husband to an overdose. She herself is then sent to prison for possession of drugs and the custody of her seven-year-old son is granted to his grandparents who blame Emily for their son’s death. Here the child’s good-hearted Grandfather, played by Nick Nolte, comes into play. In most of the film we watch Emily as she travels to Canada, Paris, London, and San Francisco; smoking, pacing in her cell, shouting, pleading, as an addict, or in detox. A production that fills the screen as much as the hearts of its viewer.
