CARLOS

CARLOS, 2010
France, Germany | 35mm, Color, 165’ | French, English, German
Director: Olivier Assayas
Cast: Édgar Ramírez, Alexander Scheer, Alejandro Arroyo

The film, which had its world premiere at Cannes last year, is about the story of an international guerilla fighter based on that of Illich Ramirez Sanchez, better known as Carlos the Jackal. The sinister terrorist of the cold war years was the central figure of a 1970s and 80s worldwide network of terrorists ranging from the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine to Japan’s Red Army Faction… From his militant days in Venezuela to his capture in Sudan, where he received special treatment from the state, and to the end of the road when he was handed over to the French police, Carlos’s story is a singular modern-time legend. A dynamite movie which draws the audience into the life of this global assassin and astonishes with its brazen violence.
