BLUE HERON, 2025

Canada, Hungary | DCP, Color, 90’ | English, Hungarian
Director: Sophy Romvari
Cast: Eylul Guven, Iringó Réti, Ádám Tompa

Set on Vancouver Island in the late 1990s, the film tells the story of a Hungarian-Canadian family struggling to adapt to their new home. The story unfolds through the eyes of the youngest daughter, Sasha. What begins as days by the sea, afternoons in the park, and joyful moments in the garden gradually takes on a darker tone as troubles deepen with one family member. Years later, we witness their attempt to come to terms with this difficult past. Beneath the world of revived childhood joy lies a striking tale of a family in crisis. Romvari’s emotionally perceptive and intelligent debut feature navigates this tension with remarkable finesse.
