This selection offers a sharp perspective on human labour, bodily rhythms, and the invisible mechanisms of the modern world through a series of short films produced by Ali Kazma over the past 15 years. Kazma’s camera observes the ways humans produce, endure, and assert their existence across a wide range of environments – from printing houses to flour mills, from prisons to mines. The films create their own micro-universes, at times by concentrating on a single gesture, at other times by circling around a process or a space. They invite the viewer to engage both with the material details of reality and with the collective field of thought that these details suggest. Comprising 12 films, the selection reveals Kazma’s approach, which transforms documentary from a narrative form into a thinking practice, uniting the everyday and the exceptional along the same aesthetic plane.
