Director: Cyril Aris
Cast: Mounia Akl, Julia Kassar, Camille Salameh
The film follows the decades-spanning relationship of childhood loves Nino and Yasmina, repeatedly interrupted by Beirut’s political turmoil. Born only a minute apart during a bombing, the two discover, when they meet again years later, that the bond between them never truly broke, but has taken on a new form. Treating love less as a romantic ideal than as a process entangled with belonging, loss, exile, and hope, the film invites reflection on how we live with what remains unresolved rather than offering definitive answers. Premiering in the Giornate degli Autori section of the 82nd Venice Film Festival, A Sad and Beautiful World won the Audience Award.
