JEAN-LUC GODARD / ANNE-MARIE MIEVILLE: FOUR SHORT FILMS
1993 and 2002, have been brought together by ECM Cinema. Writer Michael Athen notes the films "encompass everything: art and freedom, presence and memory, violence and passion. Four symphonies composed of images, tones, quotes, and soundtracks. Four essays in which the cinema itself seems to speak to us, in friendly dialogue with painting, literature and music - as a brother to all the arts -.

Godard has said, "Manfred Eicher", president and founder of ECM Records, "began our relationship by sending me some music... And after listening I wrote to him and asked him to send me more records of his company. And I had the feeling, the way he was producing sound that, we were more or less in the same country: he with sounds, me with images."

Yet the music is but one element in Godard's unique mix. As Manfred Eicher observed recently, "What makes things so different and special is the way Godard is able to juxtapose sound, light, text and music. His sense of rhythm, inhaling and exhaling, is remarkable, as is his sense of timing. His artistic work is often a point of reference for me, for instance, the sculptural quality of his films and the depth of aesthetic and artistic information they convey."

The information spills and bleeds through these four films, independent pictures that are also interconnected, with themes and sub-themes carried from one work to the next.

Manfred Eicher (bom 1943) studied music at the Academy of Music in Berlin. in 1969 he founded the Edition of Contemporary Music (ECM) for which he is recording producer, publisher and editor. Hundreds of records made under his artistic direction include those of Keith Jarrett, Jan Garbarek, Chick Corea, Gary Burton, Dave Holland, Egberto Gismonti, Paul Bley, and Pat Metheny. His film work includes music production and / or conception for films by Jean-Luc Godard (Eloge de l'Amour, The Old Place, Forever Mozart, JLG, Helas Pour Moi, Allemagne Neuf Zero, Nouvelle Vague, Histoire(s) du Cinema), Theo Angelopoulos (Eternity and a Day, Ulysses' Gaze, The Suspended Step of the Stork), for Xavier Koller's Journey to Hope, for Sandra Nettelbeck's Mostly Martha and the documentary film War Photographer by Christian Frei.

Pier Paolo Pasolini (1922 - 2 Kasım / November 1975)
Pasolini distinguished himself as a philosopher, linguist, novelist, playwright, filmmaker, actor, painter and political figure. He demonstrated a unique and extraordinary cultural versatility, in the process of becoming a highly controversial, brave figure and one of the most important artists of the twentieth-century.

In 2005 October for the 30th anniversary of Pasolini's death, this documentary's 35mm version was restored by the Bologna Cinemateque. The documentary draws a portrait of Pasolini's film and literature accomplishments as well as showing footage from an interview made at his home in Via Eufrate along with archival footage of the suburbs of the city Rome.

CHE COSA SONO LE NUVOLE?

In front of a crowded audience Shakespeare's Othello is being performed. The film plays on the conceptual relationship of "being" and "being seen", a bitter reflection on life and death.

SCREENINGS
Organised by İstanbul Foundation far Culture and Arts and Kod Müzik with the support of Miller, Phonem by Miller takes place between October 28 -November 11 this year. The event features alternative rock and indie-pop alongside electronic music.

ANTENNA UK 02 - 03 MUSIC VIDEOS FROM UNITED KINGDOM
Antenna UK is the spin-off endeavour Antenna undertook in association with the British Council, producing programmes of music videos and filmed interviews with profiled British directors screened all over the world. Antenna UK's "02" and "03" are two sets of recent work by British music video directors. The screenings will take place in at two different times: 2 and 9 November, Thursday at 18:00.

CHRIS CUNNINGHAM - RUBBER JOHNNY EXPERIMENTAL SHORT
Rubber Johnny is the latest creation from the UK's most imaginative filmmaker, Chris Cunningham. Featuring music by legendary electronic composer, Aphex Twin, this nightmarish and hallucinatory experimental short film is 7 mins in length.

Filmayısı is an organization involved with screenings and production of short films, its members are from Yıldız Technical University and Yıldız Cinema Club. This will be the second short film program co-organized by İstanbul Modern Cinema and Filmayısı.
