Visitor Guide

Museum Rules 
  • Museum visitors are requested to leave their umbrellas, large bags, backpacks, and luggage in the cloakroom. Please note that in the galleries, you may be asked to remove your backpack and leave it in the cloakroom. Istanbul Modern cannot assume responsibility for the security of personal belongings that are not deposited in the designated cloakroom area.
  • Smoking and vaping are strictly prohibited in the museum's indoor and outdoor areas.
  • Kindly refrain from bringing and consuming food and beverages in the exhibition areas and galleries.
  • We kindly ask you not to cross the warning lines in front of and around the artworks, not to sit on the floor inside the galleries, and not to touch the artworks.
  • Pets are not allowed in the museum, with the exception of guide dogs.
  • Electric scooters, electric skateboards, and electric foldable bicycles are not allowed in the museum. Non-electric scooters, skateboards, and foldable bicycles are allowed but must be left in the cloakroom. Please note that we may not accept these items during rush hours due to limited cloakroom capacity.
  • Unless stated otherwise, shooting for personal use is allowed on the museum premises. These must be for personal, non-commercial, and non-professional use only.
  • Flash, camera props, selfie sticks, and camera tripods are prohibited.
  • Photographs must be taken without flash and tripod. We kindly request that visitors with tripods, selfie sticks, and similar equipment store them in the cloakroom.
  • Copying, distributing, selling, or sharing shoots except for personal use requires prior written permission from Istanbul Modern and the artists.
  • Visitors are responsible for not violating copyright or any other laws.
For Families
  • The museum is free of charge for children aged 12 and younger who are accompanied by an adult.
  • To ensure the safety of both children and artworks, we kindly request that visitors hold the hands of small children who are not in strollers during the exhibition visits. The guardianship and supervision of children are the sole responsibility of their accompanying adults.
  • Visitors, accompanied by infants in the “6 months to 4 years” age group, may borrow Quinny strollers donated to Istanbul Modern by Grupbaby. Use of the strollers is free of charge.
  • Visitors can use the baby care room on the mezzanine floor.

Digital Museum Experience
  • Our visitors may access the complimentary Wi-Fi service.
  • Free audio tours and AR applications are available for visitors, accessible through QR codes located next to the artworks in the exhibitions. 
  • While enjoying the audio tour and AR experiences, we kindly request that you use headphones and refrain from talking on the phone at a high volume.
Group Tours
  • To secure a spot for group tours, please make reservations by contacting +90 (212) 334 7300. Kindly note that unreserved groups will not be accommodated.

Accessibility
  • Disabled visitors can visit the museum free of charge with an accompanying person by providing their “ID Card for the Disabled.”
  • The “Descriptive Exhibition Tour” program organized for the visually impaired can be reserved by contacting egitim@istanbulmodern.org at least three days before the tour.
  • In collaboration with educational institutions, Istanbul Modern’s The Color I Touch program offers special exhibition tours and workshops for visually impaired children, young people, and adults; We Meet offers special tours and workshops for children with special learning needs; and The Words of Art offers exhibition tours and workshops for deaf children and young people. Special Education Institutions can participate in these free training programs by contacting egitim@istanbulmodern.org
  • There are signs in the galleries and exhibition areas for visitors who are sensitive to light, have epilepsy or migraines.
  • We kindly request that visitors in need of a loaner wheelchair inform us at the time of ticket purchase.
  • Our visitors are welcome to utilize the portable stools available at the gallery entrances during their exhibition visits.
