Conversation with Evren Erol: Thoughts That Shape Existence

Sculptor Evren Erol examines the core conceptual processes and methods of production that shape his artistic practice in this talk. Focusing on the relationship between the individual and their surroundings, he discusses how he constructs the interaction between body, space, and material, drawing on examples from his work.

For Erol, the body is not merely a physical presence but a dynamic structure in which memory, resistance, and transformation unfold simultaneously. With each new work, the artist reexamines this evolving structure. His engagement with material—its behavior, the experience of working with it, and the artist’s inner processes—transforms sculpture into a tangible outcome of the interaction between the material’s physical properties and human experience. When sculptures encounter viewers in different spaces, they become sites of encounter that contain endless perceptual and mental possibilities. This talk explores Erol’s artistic production through its conceptual framework, material choices, research into body–space relations, and his approach to the viewer’s experience.
