Istanbul Modern wins a special prize at The European Museum Forum due to its innovative approach
The European Museum Forum deemed Istanbul Museum of Modern Art worthy of a special prize owing to its “accomplishment in innovativeness”. In the evaluation made at the 32. European Museum Forum (EMF), organized in Bursa in a first for Turkey this year, Istanbul Museum of Modern Art won the “Special Prize” because of the “expertise in its perception of museology, the innovative outlook it has, and the importance it attaches on visitors”. Together with this special prize, it was emphasized that Istanbul Modern has taken its place among pioneering institutions in European contemporary museology due to its advanced museology practices.
It was stated that this special prize was bestowed on Istanbul Modern for the balance it has created between Turkish art and international contemporary art in its collection, for the education provided to children and young people, for setting a good example with the perfect facilities that it introduces to visitors in a country where people are not in the habit of visiting museums, and for being the pioneer of modern art in its country as an unparalleled institution. Stephen Harrison, the President of European Museum Forum said that Istanbul Modern “has taken its place among the most distinguished institutions of Europe in contemporary museology”.
