WALKABOUT

WALKABOUT, 1971

UK, Australia |Blu-ray, Color, 100' |English, Aborigine languages, Czech, French
Director:Nicolas Roeg
Cast:Jenny Agutter, David Gulpilil, Luc Roeg

Nicolas Roeg started his career as a cinematographer and later became a director. Walkabout is both his solo debut as director and his last film as cinematographer. Drawing attention to various oppositions between city dwellers and people living in harmony with nature, the film explores the topic of colonialism through the body. Two siblings, whose father has committed suicide after setting his car on fire in the middle of the Australian desert, are saved by an Aboriginal boy. Walkabout offers a difficult-to-describe film experience with the backdrop of the vast Australian outback highlighted by Roeg’s poetic expressiveness.
