In her second feature film, which won the Grand Prix at Cannes, Alice Rohrwaher focuses on a family of beekeepers living in a remote village, and in particular on their eldest adolescent daughter Gelsomina. The father, although not ill-intentioned, is an irascible man who himself works hard like a bee, striving to provide for his family. Gelsomina, who helps her father tend to the bees, signs her family up for a TV talent show that offers a cash prize and a luxury cruise. This move to solve their money problems, and also a little bit to get approval, will change the whole family’s life. Nothing will ever be the same again.
