Towards the end of the World War II, the young and desperate mother of 13-year-old twins leaves them with their grandmother in her village despite knowing her to be a cruel, rude alcoholic. The two brothers, left to learn to fend for themselves in this new rural setting, start to record the things that they have witnessed throughout the war in a notebook. However, whilst writing they set themselves a strict rule: No emotional writing. The recordings must be open and objective. Once the war is over, the freedom they find is not what the two brothers expected, and a difficult period begins. The film won the Crystal Globe award at the Karlovy Vary Film Festival.
