Pedro Almodóvar’s first film in English is an adaptation of Jean Cocteau’s 1930 play written for a single actor in a single location played by Tilda Swinton who delivers a captivating performance. The story begins with a woman who has been abandoned by her lover buying an axe and throughout the film we witness her changing moods inside an apartment.

The thirty-minute feature is a concentrated masterpiece where Swinton’s magnetic appearance on screen is coupled with Almodóvar’s visual aesthetics characterized by brilliant colors and pop objects. The film that evokes a contemporary feeling of isolation premiered at the Venice Film Festival.
