THE HEADLESS WOMAN

THE HEADLESS WOMAN

THE HEADLESS WOMAN (LA MUJER SIN CABEZA), 2008

Argentina, France, Brazil |HDD, Color, 87' |Spanish
Director: Lucrecia Martel
Cast: María Onetto, Claudia Cantero, Inés Efron

The Headless Woman, which Martel filmed four years after The Holy Girl, is the final film of the director’s series referred to as the “Salta Trilogy.” Similar to the earlier two films, The Headless Woman also uses a language that calls attention to the physical and social corruption in the director’s country. The film’s protagonist Veronica hits something as she is trying to answer her mobile phone while driving, and slowly begins to lose it as she fights the paranoia of the possibility of having killed someone. The Headless Woman will make you feel the humidity in your bones as you watch the hidden clues and the director’s genius throughout the film.
