Doctor Daniel Da Barca is a left-wing activist who believes that women have a right to vote. While he and his lover Marisa Mallo participate in demonstrations and give speeches Da Barca is unaware that he is being followed by Civil Guard Herbal. When the Falangists take control of the country Da Barca is arrested for his ideals. However, Da Barca is not just any prisoner. His knowledge, reconciliatory abilities, and imagination earn him popularity among the other prisoners. In the meantime Marisa’s father Don Benito tries to marry his daughter to a Falangist lieutenant.
