THE DAUGHTERS OF FIRE (AS FILHAS DO FOGO), 2023
Portugal | DCP, Color, 9’ | Portuguese
Director: Pedro Costa
Cast: Alice Costa, Karyba Gomes, Elizabeth Pinard
Drawing inspiration from the 1951 volcanic eruption on the island of Fogo, Costa interweaves the voices of three women—Adelaide, Clotilde, and Irodina—with Biagio Marini’s Passacaglia. This experimental short merges singing bodies with archival footage of the eruption, transforming them into a fragile record of memory.

OUR MAN (O NOSSO HOMEM), 2010
Portugal | DCP, Color, 23’ | Portuguese
Director: Pedro Costa
Cast: José Alberto Silva, Lucinda Tavares, Alfredo Mendes, Ventura
Following the trilogy dedicated to the residents of Fontainhas, this short film serves as an epilogue. Set in the shadow of the demolished neighbourhood, Ventura appears once again—this time as one of four characters engaged in a dialogue of quiet despair. With profound sensitivity, Costa brings back into view the lost spaces of the neighbourhood and the fragile lives of its inhabitants.

6 BAGATTELLES (6 BAGATELAS), 2001
Portugal, France | DCP, Black-White & Color, 18’ | French
Director: Pedro Costa, Thierry Lounas
Cast: Danièle Huillet, Jean-Marie Straub

Composed of six scenes shot for Where Does Your Hidden Smile Lie? but left unused, this film takes its title from Anton Webern’s 1911 composition Six Bagatelles. Showing the Straub-Huillet couple in a more domestic setting, it finds poetry in fleeting gestures and the small details of everyday life.
