Saroyanland, 2013

Turkey-Armenia |DCP, Color, 75' | English, Turkish, Armenian
Director: Lusin Dink

Author William Saroyan, the child of an exiled Armenian family, was born in the USA in 1908. He always described himself as an Armenian, an American, and a Bitlistsi (meaning “from the city of Bitlis” in Armenian). The film is about the long journey Saroyan took to Anatolia in 1964. Through the accounts of his travelling companions as well as Saroyan’s own memories and stories, the film displays the writer’s anger, passion, and longing, his ability to empathize, and his love of humans. While retaking Saroyan’s journey 49 years later, we witness the self-discovery of a man who followed the traces of his ancestors.
