PARIS TROUT

PARIS TROUT

PARIS TROUT, 1991
USA | 35mm, Color, 99' | English
Director: Stephen Gyllenhaal
Cast: Dennis Hopper, Barbara Hershey, Ed Harris

Adapted from Pete Dexter’s novel, the film is about a small-town Southern bigot in 1949. Played by Dennis Hopper, Paris Trout murders the mother and sister of a black man to punish him for not wanting to pay back for the car he had bought and crashed the same day. This obsessive man who believes he can make his own rules to obtain justice feels the murder he has committed is justified and does not understand why he has been arrested. Though his lawyer Harry Seagraves (Ed Harris) does not want to defend a man he believes should be punished he has entered a dangerous relationship with Trout’s wife (Barbara Hershey). This film is one of the best examples of the bad-guy persona played by Dennis Hopper who was one of Hollywood’s finest actors!
