Obaba

Obaba, 2005
Director: Montxo Armendariz, 100’
(Basque with English subtitles)

25-year-old Lourdes embarks on a journey to the Obaba territories. She carries a small video camera. With this camera she intends to capture the reality of Obaba, its world, and its people, and to record what’s happening as is. But Obaba is not the place Lourdes had imagined: The people who live there, such as Merche, Ismael, and Tomas, live anchored in a past they cannot escape. Thanks to them and a cheerful young man called Miguel, Lourdes will get to know the remnants in their lives: their childhood and years of maturity, their past, their present, and how they survive having lost their dreams…
