The story of Arthur Poppington (Woody Harrelson), an average man who, wearing a costume, believes himself to be a superhero committed to defend the community. Defendor, whose only wish is to make the world a better place, helps the young prostitute who crosses his path but runs out of luck when confronted with real danger; when he gets into genuine trouble he has to appear in court and give an account of himself to a psychologist. At first glance Defendor might look like a low-budget superhero movie or a comedy, but with its stance and subject actually it is more akin to Taxi Driver. A sincere, profound drama in which all characters, beginning with Harrelson, have admirable screen presence!
