Shot 10 years after his film Zerre was screened in the first year of the program “Count Us In”, Erdem Tepegöz’s second feature offers an entirely different cinema. In this story set in an undefined time and place, the system is a machine and people have become its cogs. In this dystopia with elements of science-fiction, we watch the struggle for survival of people working in an enormous, dilapidated factory. The film thus reflects the feelings of desensitization and alienation prevalent today and is notable for the visual and auditory universe it constructs in the center of a mysterious space. In The Shadows had its world premiere at the Moscow International Film Festival.
