THE SWINDLE

THE SWINDLE

THE SWINDLE (RIEN NE VA PLUS), 1997
France | 35mm, Color, 104' | French
Director: Claude Chabrol
Cast: Isabelle Huppert, Michel Serrault, François Cluzet

Crimes are again committed with ease in this 50th film by Chabrol, who began his film career as part of the French New Wave and turned to Hitchcock-style crime movies. Victor (Michel Serrault) and Betty (Isabelle Huppert), who is half his age, are a pair with an ambiguous relationship, who travel in a trailer and live off small-time swindling. But when these petty swindlers get involved in a grand scheme that includes a Swiss Bank and 5 million Francs, their relationship is plunged into deep waters. The film, which is driven by the ambiguity of the pair’s relationship, is an amusing story punctuated by surprises!
