Young director Ari Aster’s debut feature Hereditary premiered at the Sundance Film Festival this year and has garnered attention as the most impactful horror movie of the year. Following the death of Ellen, a grandmother who we gather was the less-than likeable matriarch of the family, her daughter Annie feels an unexplainable sense of unease and starts questioning her own motherhood and blaming herself for the dark clouds that are cast over her family. The film is told by the director in such a way that you will wonder if what you’re watching is real or figments of the characters’ imagination. A striking thriller that will keep you on the edge of your seat every second.
