HEARTBEATS (KOHTAAMISIA), 2009
Finland | 35mm, Color, 81’ | Finnish
Director: Saara Cantell
Cast: Anneli Sauli, Jenni Banerjee, Sampo Sarkola

Martta has a secret she won’t reveal to her family, Noora tries to chart her own course, and Meri is busy learning that what you wish for does not always end up the way you want it to. While Olga and Fardusa are looking for a better future far away from home, Emmi looses the “good” part of her future by making the wrong choices, and Anu is forced to face her past on a parking lot. Heartbeats is the story of seven women and the seven decisions they make. We witness how the lives of these characters can change with decisions and encounters. The light of northern cinema can be felt in this film. This drama on character development can be described in John Lennon’s words: “Life is what happens to you while you’re busy making other plans.”
