“The FilmBallad of MamaDada” is a kind of homage to Baroness Elsa von Freytag-Loringhoven (1874-1927), one of the representatives of the 1920s Dada Movement who was forgotten with the passing of time contrary to many male Dadaists. This cinematic collage was created by over fifty young artists who were inspired by the multi-faceted endeavors of the Baroness who was a sculptor, a poet, a painter, a model and public provocateur. The “exquisite corpse” technique, a Surrealist discovery, has been used for the cinematic collage that also boasts a classic narrative and experimental fragments. Different artists contributed to the collage in varying styles and with different contents: a re-contextualized Jane Fonda interview, an animation depicting the effects of syphilis, a reconstruction of a lost 16mm film by Duchamp and Man Ray.
