GOIN’ DOWN THE ROAD, 1970

Canada | DCP, Color, 129' | English
Director: Donald Shebib
Cast: Doug McGrath, Paul Bradley, Jayne Eastwood

Considered a landmark of English-language Canadian cinema, Goin’ Down the Road follows two friends from rural Nova Scotia as they travel to Toronto in search of a better life. Although they find work at a soft drink bottling factory, the promises of the big city soon give way to unemployment and financial hardship. Produced independently and marked by an improvisational style approaching documentary realism, the film remains a resonant account of urbanization and economic disillusionment.
