CHECHNYA, WAR WITHOUT TRACE

CHECHNYA, WAR WITHOUT TRACE

CHECHNYA, WAR WITHOUT TRACE; 2014

France | 87’

Director: Manon Loizeau

Chechnya has undergone considerable transformation in only a few years. Mine fields and piles of debris have been replaced by boulevards, luxurious boutiques and glass skyscrapers. It is now almost impossible to be able to recognise that the country was once in war. Award-winning journalist Manon Loizeau spent the last twenty years following the conflicts in Chechnya. Upon her return to Chechnya after several years of absence Loizeau discreetly filmed the places she knew inside out and observed that behind the glistening mask of new Grozny, there are men and women still living in great fear than there were during the years of war and occupation. “War without Trace” presents a journey into the realm of negligence and terror.
