Portugal, France | DCP, Black-White, 98’ | French, English
Director: Pedro Costa
Cast: Jeanne Balibar, Rodolphe Burger
Dedicated to the French actress and singer Jeanne Balibar, this documentary follows the artist through her stage performances, studio recordings, and long rehearsal processes. Stripped of grand gestures, within dark and dense black-and-white imagery, Balibar’s voice, body, and face take shape through constant repetitions, trials, and subtle explorations. The film’s focus is on the process itself: we witness the patient and fragile effort involved in finding and perfecting the right sound. While capturing the poetry of music born from the shadows, Costa turns each rehearsal into a kind of ritual, every glance and breath into cinematic intensity.
