Greece I DCP, Color, 80’ I Greek

Director: Ektoras Lygizos

Cast: Yiannis Papadopoulos, Lila Mpaklesi, Vangelis Kommatas

Inspired by Knut Hamsun’s novel Hunger, Lygizos’ first feature film in the cinéma vérité style brings to mind the latest crisis experienced in Greece with its each moment. 22 year old Yorgos is a penniless young man living in Athens, hungry and alone. There are only two things Yorgos holds dearly; his magnificent voice and his Canary’s seed which he himself occasionally is forced to feed on. When Yorgos loses his home, he begins searching for a place where his bird can shelter. The film won the Special Jury Mention Prize at the Karlovy Vary Film Festival.
