Alina, returning from Germany comes to the monastery to pick her childhood friend, Voichita. Voichita is the only person she loves and the one that loves her. But she is a nun now. Director Cristian Mungiu says “Beyond the Hills is mostly about how love can turn the concepts of good and evil into very relative ones. Most of the greatest mistakes of this world have been made in the name of faith, and with the absolute conviction they were done for a good cause.” Mungiu had won Palme D’Or five years ago for his film 4 Months, 3 Weeks and 2 Days.
