INTERSECTING TIMES
December 11, 2005–January 15, 2007

INTERSECTING TIMES İstanbul Modern , ikinci kalıcı koleksiyon sergisi "Kesişen Zamanlar" ile sanat tarihsel önerisini sürdürüyor.

A year passed since İstanbul Modern held its opening with its first exhibition, "Observation-Interpretation-Multiplicity", which traced the story of Turkish painting taking into consideration the last 100 years. The exhibition sought to interpret this story through eight interrelated thematic concepts, without reference to time zones, group movements and historical background, reevaluating Modern Turkish Painting in the light of affinities, reciprocal influences and contrasts. The exhibition looked at the general proclivities of Turkish painting, pointing to possible affinities between works whose dates and sensibilities did not converge, wishing to open up a new perspectives.

With the second permanent collection exhibition, "Intersecting Times", Istanbul Modern continued to explore this art historical interpretation. Every new work acquired is an opportunity for expanding its thematic ideas and interpreting art history in alternative ways. This suggests that the course of the modern image can be interpreted in different ways, and indicates the need to go beyond stereotyped methods of writing art history. Images created by the fusion of meaning and form, indicator and indicated, are without doubt open to all kinds of interpretation, and the person who is curious about how images organize time has no choice but to bring these links into contact.
