Human Conditions

Istanbul Modern Photography Gallery opened a new exhibition titled "Human Conditions" that featured 52 photographs by Sıtkı Kösemen, and Ergün Turan and Süreyya Yılmaz Dernek.

On one of the gallery walls, photographs taken by Ergün Turan and Süreyya Yılmaz Dernek of people passing through the streets in various districts of Istanbul were displayed. Artists, like in some Turkish films of the years 1960-1970, in a style similar to that of street photographers who use clothes with "Souvenir of Istanbul" written on them, in front of a black background stretched on a wooden tambour, assert that in the streets of the city we live in we are eye to eye with countless faces, with "others" every day. On the other wall of the gallery, photographs by Sıtkı Kösemen of people "playing the death" took place. Sıtkı Kösemen, who emphasizes that the people in his photographs in a sense protest wars, deaths, and the pains the world is in by playing possum, reminds that the papers are full of news on murders and killings every day. "Human Conditions" expected new stories to be created by the audience on the numbered photographs on notebook in the exhibition.
