Long Friday: “Tune Yourself” Sound Workshop

Friday, July 10, 2026, 18.30
Istanbul Modern Event Room 1 and 2

Instructor: Asena Akan

As part of Istanbul Modern’s “Long Friday” program, Asena Akan will lead a rhythm and sound workshop at the museum on Friday, July 10. The workshop offers participants an environment in which they feel like a musical instrument, while experiencing the notions of connection and creativity through music. The event, which aims to enable participants to view music as a means of communication and healing, focuses on the feeling of being “tuned.”

About:

A musician, composer, songwriter and multi-instrumentalist, Asena Akan began her musical education at the Istanbul Municipal Conservatoire, studying classical violin. She subsequently graduated from the Opera Department of the Istanbul State Conservatoire, where she studied jazz vocals and music theory. The artist, who plays bass guitar and piano, has been releasing albums and singles featuring her own lyrics and compositions since 2013. Akan, who also holds a bachelor’s and master’s degree in Psychological Counseling from Istanbul University, organizes training sessions and workshops focusing on the transformative power of music. Her album “Duy Sesimi,” developed with the support of CultureCIVIC, won the “Best Project Album” award at the 2024 Radio Boğaziçi Music Awards. Akan continues to lead workshops as part of the “Following a Dream” project, a collaboration between Istanbul Modern and Bosch.
