“Landscapes of the Mind” at Istanbul Modern Photography Gallery focuses on works revealing the writer’s mind through the metaphor of landscape painting by Ali Kazma (b. 1971), one of today’s leading lens-based artists, whose practice explores fundamental questions about the meaning of human activity. The exhibition also features “Alberto in Lisbon” (2024), making its Turkish premiere, which follows Argentine-born writer and book historian Alberto Manguel’s library relocation process to Portugal.
At the exhibition’s first public event, artist Ali Kazma and writer Alberto Manguel come together for a conversation on Saturday, June 14, at 15.00. The talk, which will take place at the intersection of art and literature and be moderated by one of the exhibition’s curators, Demet Yıldız Dinçer, explores Kazma’s works—aiming to create a “poetic” map of the world—and Manguel’s intellectual world, which the artist describes as “a conversion portal between reality and imagination.”
The event is free of charge.
The talk is held in English.
