The System / Das System

Marc Bauder, 2011, 92’

This first feature-length movie by Marc Bauder, who previously directed various documentaries for TV, is about a young man who is drawn into a world that is entirely foreign to him. Mike, who earns his living by selling stolen goods, is caught during a robbery by a man named Konrad. The latter introduces our young protagonist into a group of one-time East Germans which includes people having worked for the East German secret service and now use their knowledge in today’s world of finance. “The System” earned Bernhard Schütz in the role of Konrad a nomination for “Best Supporting Actor” at the German Film Awards.
