7 Courtyards

7 Courtyards
Director: Semir Aslanyürek, 100’, Color, in seven languages with Turkish subtitles

In Antakya courtyards are separated from the streets with high walls and their doors are always closed. Each courtyard in Antakya is a world all its own. Their inhabitants are Turkish, Arab, Christian, Jew, Armenian, Assyrian, Greek, Alawite, or Sunni. And in each courtyard a separate language is spoken… Eleni is a Greek widow in her late twenties with three children. After the death of her husband she makes up excuses every evening to go visit the courtyards in the neighborhood for some communication. There are seven courtyards on this street of the neighborhood and each courtyard has its peculiarity: Socialists from the 1968 generation, an Armenian family, a man living with the ghost of his deceased wife, an Arabic family searching for a treasure in their courtyard…
