Rendez-Vous

Rendez-Vous

Istanbul Modern Photography Gallery presented the exhibition titled “Rendez-Vous”, which brought photographers and artists from other disciplines together.

Held at the Istanbul Modern Photography Gallery and sponsored by FUJIFILM, the exhibition began with the portraits of the Fisherman of Halicarnassus (Cevat Şakir Kabaağaçlı), taken by four photographers with four different approaches to photography. Since every photographer's experience, culture, and view of the artist are different, their interpretations were also different in the exhibition. Among other portraits are those of world-renowned artists such as Pablo Picasso, Salvador Dali, Dustin Hoffman, André Malraux, Maria Callas, and artists from Turkey such as Aliye Berger, Aşık Veysel, Nâzım Hikmet, Yaşar Kemal, Abidin Dino, Orhan Veli Kanık, Metin Erksan, and Murathan Mungan. The photographs were accompanied by notes on the shooting stories.

The works in the exhibition were based on the idea that photography can be read like a story. The moment when the artistic viewpoint of the photographer meets the subject and personality of the artist to be photographed is a process of mutual interaction.

As part of the exhibition, Orhan Cem Çetin gave a lecture on the tradition and artistic interpretation of portrait photography, which was held in the Istanbul Modern Auditorium.
