The Female Figures in Selma Gürbüz’s Works

Online Conversation with Esra Aliçavuşoğlu

The conversation will be held in Turkish on Istanbul Modern's YouTube channel.

As part of the “This Place We Call World” exhibition, which focuses on Selma Gürbüz's works that have not been previously exhibited, Prof. Dr. Esra Aliçavuşoğlu and the exhibition's curator Öykü Özsoy will be in online conversation on Istanbul Modern's YouTube channel.

The conversation will focus on the female figures from different narratives that Selma Gürbüz brings to life in her works, and the relationship of these figures with the unconscious while also touching upon the artist's various ways of thinking about the body. During the live conversation, Esra Aliçavuşoğlu will examine the layers of meaning that guide the artist's work through the female figures.

Prof. Dr. Esra Aliçavuşoğlu, teaches art history at the Marmara University Faculty of Fine Arts, where she is a faculty member. Aliçavuşoğlu has previously worked as a culture and arts reporter, editor and editor-in-chief, has published articles in numerous national and international academic publications, newspapers and magazines, and is a member of the International Association of Art Critics (AICA).
