Istanbul Modern hosts art critic, writer, and editor Catherine Millet for the second public event of the exhibition “Beyond the Horizon,” which explores the artistic journey of Ömer Uluç (1931–2010). Millet, who contributed to the exhibition catalogue with a text on Uluç’s creative world, shares her insights on the role of gesture in modern painting, while revisiting her personal memories of the artist, and reflecting on the exhibition.
About Catherine Millet:
Catherine Millet (1948) is a writer, art critic, and the founding editor of ArtPress (1972). She has authored several books on contemporary art, including Yves Klein (1982), Contemporary Art in France (1987), Contemporary Art: History and Geography (1997), and Dali and Me (2005). Her curatorial projects include “Baroque 81” (1981) at the MAM Paris (Musée d'Art Moderne de la Ville de Paris), as well as the French pavilions of the São Paulo Biennale (1989) and the Venice Biennale (1995). She gained international recognition with The Sexual Life of Catherine M. (2001), followed by Jealousy: The Other Life of Catherine M. (2008), A Dream Childhood (2014), Beginnings (2022), and Simone Emonet (2025).
