Haluk Akakçe graduated from Bilkent University in 1993. After enrolling in the school of the Art Institute of Chicago in 1995, he transferred to the Royal College of Art in London as an exchange student. He graduated from the Chicago school in 1997.
Akakçe has produced works that range from minimalist, white-on-white films with a cyclical structure to complex symbolist narratives that combine live action with high quality animation. In his videos, he explores the relationship between people and technology while referencing biology, geometry and architecture. Akakçe also explores perceptions of space and scale through drawings and paintings on paper and wood as well as through murals that extend beyond the wall space onto the adjacent floor and ceiling. In an effort to break the two-dimensionality of canvas and wall surfaces, Akakçe sometimes integrates his work with the surrounding architecture.
“The Birth of Art” is a truly visual feast in every sense. In this video, the artist explores the relationship between people and technology while simultaneously making allusions to biology, geometry, and architecture. Akakçe’s videos usually have soundtracks whose music was either specially composed for the purpose or else was adapted from a classical work and which heightens the hypnotic effect of his computer-generated images
