The Foreigners of the Oscars February 15–25, 2024

In the run-up to the 96th Academy Awards to be held this year, Istanbul Modern Cinema presents a selection of 10 films in the "Best International Film" category. This exciting category of the highly competitive awards is of particular interest for world cinema. The films in this category, representing different geographies and cultures, are Oscar-nominated films which stand outside the mainstream of Hollywood, despite having been screened and won awards at many film festivals around the world. The highlights of the program include Bhutan's first-time shortlisted Oscar nominee The Monk and the Gun, The Teachers' Lounge by İlker Çatak, which represents Germany, and Singapore's The Breaking Ice by Anthony Chen, which premiered at Cannes.
